So far, the foundation, which has partnered with the State Department and the Red Cross, has raised nearly 5 million dollars and counting, according to a news report from the Associated Press.

In the last year, text messaging, Twitter and other social networking efforts have emerged as quick and easy ways to donate money for or to promote charitable causes. Setting up such a system is typically simple and sometimes free. And using it requires very little effort.

Remember the days of the Telethon when you had to call a number and be put on hold? That approach seems ancient. Now you just text a phrase and click "send." What could be easier?

in the 80's and early nineties I kept reading why the poles would warm much more rapidly than zones closer to the equator - technical stuff that one can only get through if very interested. But the practical effects, by the thousands, are all right on schedule, in spite of all the manufactured bs to the contrary. 25 years ago the science was predicting this for example:

CLIMATE CONSPIRACY

There is a conspiracy about climate change, but it is not the fabricated one that has made right wing nuts foam at the mouth in recent days.
It is not that tens of thousands of studies checked by scientists in every country of the world - supporting the well-established reality that humanity is warming the globe - is actually the most complex and broad conspiracy in history.

That claim, offering a few excerpts out-of-context from hundreds of stolen e mails, is ridiculous beyond description.

The conspiracy that is well documented is that coal and oil interests have worked very hard to create doubt in the minds of the public about this very real and critical problem that we all share.

False War in Iraq

At the ongoing UK enquiry into the invasion of Iraq, the falseness of the justifications for that invasion - which was evident to the majority of humanity at the time - continues to be exposed:

Tony Blair's government knew that prominent members of the Bush administration wanted to topple Saddam Hussein years before the invasion but initially distanced itself from the prospect knowing it would be unlawful, it was disclosed at the Iraq inquiry today.

Even before Bush's administration came to power an article written by his then national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, warned that "nothing will change" in Iraq until Saddam was gone, Sir Peter Ricketts, a former chairman of the joint intelligence committee (JIC) and now the Foreign Office's top official, told the inquiry.

The military timetable for an invasion of Iraq in 2003 did not give time for UN weapons inspectors in the country to do their job, the former British ambassador to Washington told the Iraq inquiry in London today.
Sir Christopher Meyer said the "unforgiving nature" of the build-up after American forces had been told to prepare for war meant that "we found ourselves scrabbling for the smoking gun".
He added: "It was another way of saying 'it's not that Saddam has to prove that he's innocent, we've now bloody well got to try and prove he's guilty.' And we - the Americans, the British - have never really recovered from that because of course there was no smoking gun."

This enquiry and further investigations, are critically important.

As a result of the US/UK invasion and occupation of Iraq, hundreds of thousands of human beings were killed. Millions became refugees.

At the time, because of misleading propaganda, a significant percentage of Americans had become convinced that Iraq had been connected to the 911 attacks.

Even George W. Bush eventually admitted that was not true.

Humanity must be willing to deal with its past if it is to improve its future. Everything about the lies that led to those events should be exposed, in hopes of preventing such insanities in the future.

Balloon Boy is not in the news Today

Surfing through a dozen or more newspapers from around the world most days, one might sometimes think there isn't much going. There are stretches where most of the corporate media seems captivated by trivia for days on end - like the pending consequences for the mom and dad that faked the balloon boy event weeks ago.

But there is always a lot going on that doesn't get the coverage that it should. (moreover...)
Here a two stories that were of particular interest today:

1. In China, US President Obama was asked a controversial question about the so-called "Great firewall of China."

The question was about Chinese government censorship of the internet. China employs some of the world's tightest controls over the 250 million of its citizens who are internet users.

Obama answered that "it was good for leaders to be forced "to hear opinions that [they] don't want to hear"." - Diplomatically siding with those who would reduce that censorship.

The internet may be best the thing humanity has going for it - for communication and understanding between nations - and any push or trend towards open communication can only be a good thing.

And 2. Even very conscientious new moms-to-be are finding they are unsuccessful in keeping their bodies from the gradual saturation with toxins that we are all going through.
