Breast Milk Barometer of Toxins

Part I in a series
By Rick McLean, worldforallpeople.org

The saturation of human breast milk with poisons was first brought to our collective attention more than four decades ago - when Rachel Carson wrote of DDT in mother's milk - in Silent Spring.

In biochemistry, the term saturation refers to the fraction of total protein binding sites that are occupied at any given time.

The risks have come a long way since Silent Spring. In those days, many of the chemical toxins that are now found in women's breast milk had not yet been invented : Fire retardants. Non-stick cooking chemicals.

A barometer is an instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure.

- Wikipedia

Dangerous toxins in every woman's breast milk is an increasing pressure on the health prospects of women and nursing infants all around the world. Hence the barometer analogy. That 'fraction of occupation' in the Wikipedia quote above - are levels and varieties of substances occupying human milk, such as mercury and industrial solvents. This should be common knowledge, and should be a concern to everyone on this planet.

                 Much more to come.

In coming installments we will identify more of the contaminants and where they come from. There are personal precautions a woman can take. And, there are holistic, activist moves to make. Stay tuned.
